OK, so were not exactly punctual. But, we ARE on the road after years of planning and months of preparation. Combining a move, an extended vacation and downsizing to 200 sq. ft. is no simple task, hence the delayed departure x 2. It has been exhilarating and exhausting at the same time and we are now “over” the whole preparation part and are ready to just BE ON THE ROAD. For those of you that doubted my ability to actually get the garage cleaned out, here’s the proof:
There is a saying that goes “it takes a village to raise a child” it also takes a village to get one family on the road for a year long adventure. Thanks goes out to all the friends and family have helped make this trip happen.
My Mother presented us with a going away cake at a family gathering on Mother’s day.
We took one last trip down to the beach to say goodbye to the East coast for a while and were treated to a full double rainbow over the ocean, a first for me.
As with any maiden voyage, we decided to christen the rig with a bottle of Champagne. The Princess even participated.
At this point, we are mentally, emotionally and physically exhausted in addition to not knowing where we put any of our stuff so, the plan is to head up to the Smoky Mountain National Park for a few days to relax, recover and regroup for the upcoming journey.
Wish us luck.
“We live in a wonderful world that is full of beauty, charm and adventure. There is no end to the adventures that we can have if only we seek them with our eyes open.” Jawaharal Nehru
P.S. Sorry for the VERY delayed first post from the road. It was due to sketchy internet connectivity in the woods and poor planning on my part. I will try to catch up over the next few days and then plan better in the future. It’s one of the many learning curves in which I reside….. at the bottom.
