GOOD MORNING!

GOOD MORNING!

I just wanted everybody to have the opportunity to begin their day as we did yesterday. At 7:15am, the Hippygeek came looking for my camera. Yes, believe it or not he was up but, only because he had “dog duty” and four dogs were waiting to go out. I followed him outside onto the deck in my jammies to see the beginning of a lenticular cloud formation. I then grabbed the camera and clicked away for the next 10 minutes. It was one of the most spectacular clouds I have ever seen. Wikipedia describes a lenticular cloud as:

Where stable moist air flows over a mountain or a range of mountains, a series of large-scale standing waves may form on the downwind side. If the temperature at the crest of the wave drops to the dew point, moisture in the air may condense to form lenticular clouds. As the moist air moves back down into the trough of the wave, the cloud may evaporate back into vapor. Under certain conditions, long strings of lenticular clouds can form near the crest of each successive wave, creating a formation known as a ‘wave cloud.’ The wave systems cause large vertical air movements and so enough water vapor may condense to produce precipitation.

Take a look at what we saw:

right: 7:24am, at it’s “peak”. Even in vertical, I could not fit the whole cloud in the picture. I was wishing for a wide angle lens at this moment.

above: 7:27 am, it’s already fading. I took this picture with the house to prove that I didn’t just make it up or create it in photoshop. It really was a magical moment on the mesa and a great way to start the day. I hope it brightened up your day too!
